Amigurumi Christmas Santa Claus Free Crochet Pattern

For this pattern I used:

  1. Dk weight yarn – I used Stylecraft
Special DK and Paintbox Simply DK yarns
in these colors : red – 1123 Claret ; beige
    – skin color – 1710 – stone ; white –
    1001; black – 1002 ; very small amount of
yellow to make the clips of belt.
  2. Crochet hook size – 3,5mm – US
    crochet hook size – E
  3. Safety eyes – 12mm – black or you can
use different color depends on you
  4. Poly fiber fill for stuffing
  5. Tapestry needle
  6. Scissors
    Color Legend :
    R – red – Claret
    CR- skin color – Stone
    W – white
The doll is made of flat pieces that we will
join with single crochet stitch later. The
Santa Claus doll is made of 6 panels – 2
for body and 4 for hands.
Tips and tricks of the pattern:
  7. Color changing – When you switch colors do it always before you finish your last st
of the prev color yarn. Just change color before your last YO of prev st and YO with
new color then pull through the hook with the new yarn . Here is example with colors

– insert your hook into the last stitch of Colour A. Pull up a loop in Colour A. Then
yarn over in Colour B to complete
the stitch. Continue with Colour B
until you need to switch again.
When you change color make sure that
you are dropping the yarn in the back of
your panel if you wish you can put a stitch
marker of the Right side of the panel or
piece of string so you will never wonder
which one is the correct side.

  1. Incorporating different colors – You
can use fair isle crochet technique
when changing colors or you can
just pull them from back without
cutting yarn. Just be sure that you
keep the yarn at the backside of
panel. In the pattern when we make
the head we will need to work
    different color stitches of some
rows. The whole pattern is made
using single crochet stitch so when we incorporate different colors the stitches will
be indicated with the letter of the color . For example – “ 6W, 12CR , 6W ” – so it means that you should make first 6 stitches with White color, the next 12 with Cream , and last 6 with White color. When it says “ decW” – it means you should decrease with white color yarn .
  2. Do not forget – Make ch 1 and turn at the end of each row.

Let”s get starting :
Front body panel :
Body and head panel. Front panel is worked from row 1 til row 78. Back panel is worked
from row 1 till row 67 . Rows 68-78 are for the hat and we are making it only for the front
panel as we need the head to be slouchy not straight pointing upwaRows .

Start with black color yarn .
Row 1: Ch 6, sc 5 ( 5 )
Row 2: inc, sc 3, inc ( 5 )

In the next row we will join 2 legs of the front body panel .
Row 9: ch 4, sc 3 along rem chs, sc 9 along prev row of 1st leg, now continue on the 2 leg and make sc 9 along the prev row ( 21 )
Row 10: ch 4, inc in 2 ch from hook, sc 2 along rem chs, sc 21 along prev row , inc in last st ( 26 )

Nose :
Row 1: Start with magic ring and make 6 sc into it
Row 2: * inc, sc1 * rep 3 times ( 9 )
Row3-4 sc across ( 9 sts ). Tie off. Leave long tale for sewing.
Hands : ( make 4 pieces )
Start with cream/skin color yarn.
Row 1: Ch 3, sc 2 ( 2 sts )
Row 2: inc 2 ( 4 sts )
Row 3-5: sc across ( 4 sts )
Switch to white color yarn
Row 6-7: sc across ( 4 sts )
Switch to red color yarn
Row 8-17: sc across ( 4 sts ) . Tie off

White piece around eyes :
Start with magic ring and make 12 dc into it . do not pull the ring . First insert the safety eye and then pull to tied it around th eye and then join with sl.st in 1 st. I suggest you to use thicker yarn like sport weight or fingering for that piece so when you put the safety eye you will be sure that it won’t come out.
You can use white felt circle instead of crochet one.

Crochet white circle:
Rd 1: Start with magic ring and make 12 dc into the ring , join with sl.st in 1 st but before
closing the magic ring insert the safety eye and close the ring around eye. Then insert it in
the front panel. Insert the eyes in the 48 row leave 6sts space between eyes.
Apron : Start with white yarn
Row 1: ch 13, sc in 2 ch from hook, sc in next 11 sts
Row 2: inc, sc 10, inc
Row 3-14: sc across ( 14 sts )

Take the apron right side facing you. Insert the hook in the 1 st of 2 row and pull a loop, * make 3hdc in the same st. then make sl.st in next st * rep till the end of the row (
you should have 6 shells ) After the last shell do not sl.st in next st make the sl.st in the last st of the row. Now make the same at the other side. You should start from bottom working upwards. Just begin from 1 st of last row, skip 1 and make the 1 shell in 3 row( 6 shells in total )

Decoration of apron :
Use tapestry needle and make leaves. I made little red circles and leaves around them.
Little circle – Start with agic ring and make 5 sc into it.

Ears ( Make 4 pieces) :
Start with magic ring and make 8 dc into it. Do not join. End. You should have semi- circle
shape.Join ears 2 by 2 with sc st . When you assembly them, work the sc st only around the outside of round part do not join the flat side we will sew it directly to the body panel .

Earings-( red color yarn ) Start with agic ring and make 5 sc into it , join with sl.st to form a circle. Sew them on ears.

Assembling pieces together. It doesn’t matter where you will start assembling for . It will be easier if you attach the small parts on the body and face first then join the 2 body panel together.

  1. First assembly hand pieces together 2 by 2. 2 pieces for each hand. Join the with sc
st. Assemble ears and sew earings on them.
  2. Insert the eyes in the 48th row leave 6sts space between eyes.
  3. Sew the nose in the middle between eyes but 1 row bellow.
  4. Sew the hands to the back panel.
  5. Assemble two body panels.

Joining all the pieces :
When you join two body panels make sure that the right side of front panel is facing you while you are crocheting with single crochet stitch around .
As you crochet along the outside, you will need to switch colours where appropriate. When switching colours, insert your hook into the last stitch of Colour A. Pull up a loop in Colour A. Then yarn over in Colour B to complete the stitch. Continue with Colour B until you need to switch again.
Enjoy your day and happy crochet .
